About

Welcome to Ranya Grill, where every dish tells a story. We are proud to be the first and only Kurdish restaurant in the city.

Our restaurant is a tribute to the village of Ranya in northern Iraq, a place of deep family roots and rich culinary traditions. The name Ranya holds a special place in our hearts—it’s not just a village, but a symbol of home for our family, most of whom still reside in Iraq. By bringing the authentic flavours of Ranya to Cambridge, we’ve found a way to bridge the distance and feel a little closer to them and share this beautiful place with the rest of the world.

But Ranya is known for more than just its food. The town is famous for being the “Gate of the Uprising,” as it was the first place where the 1991 Kurdish revolution began against Saddam Hussain. This spirit of resilience, community, and hope is what we aim to share through our food.

Today, Ranya is a vital agricultural centre and a symbol of Kurdish resilience and the struggle for self-determination.

Ranya is known for the beautiful mountains, including Kewarash Mountain and the Hajila and Makok mountains, alongside picturesque plains, vibrant rivers, and stunning lakes such as Dokan Lake. This natural landscape makes Ranya a popular destination.

At Ranya Grill, our mission is simple: to offer a fresh, authentic taste of Kurdistan. We know that a meal is more than just food; it’s a chance to connect with loved ones. Which we believe is the most important thing in this world. Our menu is a collection of recipes passed down through generations, made with the freshest ingredients to ensure every bite is a true taste of home. We’ve designed our restaurant to be a welcoming, family-friendly space where you can relax, enjoy each other’s company, and experience the warm, authentic hospitality of Kurdistan.

We invite you to come and savour the unique flavours of our Kurdish cuisine, and together create new memories with us.
